Mount Airy Rails to Trails

Announcement:  Construction to make our beautiful R2T more ADA compatible and accessible to everyone has begun. This means our R2T trail will be closed from approximately Aug 14th until complete. We will miss our beloved trail that provides a short cut to Watkins Park and downtown, but the benefits will be worth the growing pains. The work is being paid for by a grant from the State of Maryland. In the meantime stay tuned to our Facebook page as we highlight other trails in town and possible workdays for those. Will post updates and pictures. Stay tuned!

The mission of Mount Airy Rails to Trails is to provide foot traffic for local businesses, scenic beauty for nature lovers, and a walk through the past for historians and rails fans.

Mount Airy Rails to Trails was started by a small group of volunteers and a few shovels.  It has grown to a following of over 2000 R2T fans and has even been instrumental in the restoration of MAC the caboose/visitors center.
