Calendar of Events

Historical Society of Mount Airy monthly meetings - held the first Tuesday of every month on the lower level of the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company Building at 7pm.  Meetings are scheduled for one hour, but may go longer depending on questions. Schedule of topics for 2022-23 will mostly focus on entertainment in Mount Airy, and is thus far as follows:

  • September 6, 2022 - Carnivals and Parades in Mount Airy - facilitated by Barbara Runkles, and featuring Linda Brightwell, Sandy Dutterer, and Jimmy Linton.

  • October 4, 2022 - Memories of the Mount Airy Movie Theater, facilitated by Barbara Runkles, and featuring Mary Lynn Myers-Kuhn, Gary Richard, and Betty Ifert.

  • November 1, 2022 -History and Development of the 3 major military non-profit organizations in Mount Airy (American Legion, VFW, and Marine Corps League), facilitated by Doris and Jerome Bujanowski, and featuring Jack Severn, Marine Corps League; Mark Bailey, VFW;, and Todd Morris, American Legion.

  • December 6, 2022 - Baseball, Mount Airy's Pastime, facilitated by Barbara Runkles, and featuring Billy Wagner.

  • March 7, 2023 - Music Memories in Mount Airy, facilitated by Barbara Runkles, and featuring Ruth Ann Browning Benson and Barbara Browning Runkles.

  • April 4, 2023 - The Bowling Story of Mount Airy, facilitated by Barbara Runkles, and featuring The Zeke Watkins Family (Ted, Chuck, and Janet Haines), and Alyson Rineer.

History 101 - October 3-6, 2022 - a week of presentations and discussions about various history topics and their impact on Mount Airy.  Schedule is as follows:

  • October 3rd: 7pm, Pine Grove Chapel - History of the Underground Railroad, featuring Anthony Cohen

  • October 4th: 7pm, Mt. Airy Volunteer Fire Company Station, lower level - Memories of the Mount Airy Movie Theater, facilitated by Barbara Runkles

  • October 5th: 6:30 pm, Mt. Airy Public Library - The Legacy of Civil War Medicine, presented by Betsy Estilow

  • October 6: 6:30 pm, Mt. Airy Public Library - Slavery in the Frederick area in the 1800's, and the 14th New Jersey Regiment who were stationed at Pine Grove Chapel in Mt. Airy during the Civil War and were instrumental during the Battle of Monocacy, presented by staff of the Monocacy National Battlefield

Mount Airy Ghost Tours - August ghost tours were a rousing success! Now working on scheduling for October 14-16, 21-23, and 28-30, 2022.  Tickets will be a spooky $13/person, $12/person for senior citizens. Stay tuned for more information on times and purchasing tickets! (Note: All proceeds going to Flat Iron Preservation and Restoration Fund.)

Mount Airy Candy Crawl - October 29, 2022, 11am-3pm - Museum will be open

Restaurant Fundraisers for the Flat Iron Preservation and Restoration Fund:

  • California Tortilla - October 18, 2022, 5-10pm - 10% of proceeds will be donated

  • New York J & P Pizza - October 24, 2022, ALL DAY - 10% of proceeds from dine-in, delivery, and Door Dash will be donated

Farmers Market - ongoing between June 1 and September 28, 2022 - Museum will be open 3-7pm - MASTS is providing a FREE shuttle bus from Mount Airy Senior Center and the American Legion to the Farmers Market!
